There’s no better place to Salute the Sun

There's no better place to Salute the SunMyself and Claire, practicing barefoot on the beach

This was one of the first times I thought to myself, “Hey, I could teach Yoga!” I was in and around Tofino, BC on a Kayak trip with some classmates from school. My friend Claire and I decided it would be nice to get up early one morning and practice yoga on the beach. We were always the first ones up and after a cup of coffee we’d wander down toward the water and run through a few sun salutations to warm up our bodies. This became a daily thing for us, as you can see in the photo we would dig our feet into the sand and eventually have to shift over to a clear spot, to begin again.

These were some of the nicest moments of the trip for me. Of course, lots of stress followed as this was a guide’s training course which was very demanding, both mentally and physically. Sharing our little coffee and stretch routine was such a wonderful balance throughout the week. Afterwards, when we arrived home (and throughout the completion of my university diploma) I always kept the idea of teaching yoga in the back of my mind.
